Not since Natalie Merchant has there been a singer like Jennifer Tucker. Jennifer has been writing original music for over twenty years and her latest album titled "Songs From the Bohemian Highway" is her most powerful collection of songs to date.
Jennifer grew up playing folk music in Deep Ellum in Dallas and formed her first band "Scarlet's Garden" with indie rocker Rhett Miller, who she introduced to Murry Hammond and the rest is Old 97's history. As a teenager Jennifer grew up listening to punk rock music in Deep Ellum and began writing her own songs at sixteen after being inspired by live alternative music. Deep Ellum was a profound place in the mid 80's and Jennifer's song "Deep Ellum Blues" on her new album relfects this experience.
Growing up, Jennifer was surrounded by her father and his friends playing folk music. Jen's dad taught her to play guitar at a very young age and hosted shindigs with friends and family. This is where Jennifer practiced playing in front of an audience as a kid and by the time she was 19 she opened (solo) for the Pixies at Club Clearview in Deep Ellum.
In 1989 Jennifer left Deep Ellum for San Francisco to study design and ended up becoming an Internet rock star instead. After the dot.com bust in 2000 Jennifer picked up her guitar again and has finally finished her album titled "Songs from the Bohemian Highway." You can listen to songs from the album at "jennifertucker2008" on MySpace.com.
Catch Jennifer live every Friday at Barley & Hops in Occidental at the Russian River, Sonoma County.
